WHITT REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN 29W SPRINT CAR ON MOTHER'S DAY |
Monday, May 11, 2009 – After another USAC National rainout on Friday, the 29w C-Squared Red Bull sprint car was the only action planned for Cole this weekend. Sunday Night Kokomo Speedway again found most of Cole’s USAC driving foes at the track. For Cole, this would be the third race for the no. 29w sprint car. With two wins in two attempts, Cole felt that another win was possible. After a second place qualifying
position, Cole ran the heat race and transferred to the feature with a smart fourth in the heat. Whitt started the feature in 5th however 8 laps into the race a brief rain shower brought out the red. While track personnel went to work at keeping the race track race ready, Whitt went to work in the pits fine tuning his race car. Cole would resume the race in the 8th position. Whitt knew he had his work cut out for him and he would have to be aggressive to gain position in the remaining laps. With precision driving and working the high line on the fence, Whitt earned a dominating victory in the 30 lap feature. With three wins in three races, this was even more special as Cole had promised his mother Kim the win for Mother’s Day.
Cole said, “What a great win! We knew coming into the race that we had a good package for the race. We also knew, though, that after winning the first two races this year that everyone we race was gunning to take down the 29w car. With it being Mother’s Day I couldn’t let my mom down and we were able to dig deep and take the win.”
