Whitt Continues with Top 5 Finishes
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 – Cole Whitt and his team have been very busy as the season winds down in the Midwest.  In the past two weeks the team has traveled to Wisconsin, southern Illinois and back to Indiana.   Although the USAC Silver Crown race at DuQoin was a complete rain out and will not be rescheduled, Cole Whitt has produced solid results in all other classes.

Friday, Cole Whitt and his 29w crew chief, Chuck Gurney Jr. took to local action at Gas City I-69 Speedway.  The duo produced solid results with a strong run in the heat race from the 6th position to finish 2nd.   Track rules are the top 8 finishers redraw for starting positions in the main and Whitt drew the #8 pill.   With multiple classes running make up races from the previous week rainouts, the track was dry and slick.  In the feature Whitt knew he had his work cut out for him starting in 8th.  As the feature progressed Whitt was able to take to the high groove and make multiple passes that no one else was attempting.  Cole finished an exciting 3rd place at the finish.

Saturday, September 5, Cole Whitt and Keith Kunz Motorsports crew made the trip north to compete in the USAC National Midget racing “Fireman’s Nationals” in Sun Prairie, WI.   Cole qualified late in the draw and was only able to qualify 17th amongst the 32 car field.   After posting a dominating win in the heat race, Cole would start the 50 lap feature in the 15th position.   Whitt was on the gas and hooked up in the feature making his way to the front, however while running in the 6th position, Whitt’s right rear wheel cover gave way and packed the wheel with mud.  Cole pulled the car into the pit area under caution and the crew was able to repair the wheel.  However Whitt was relegated to the rear of the field and would restart in the 22nd position.  In the remaining laps, again Cole made his way to the front catching the leaders and posted an impressive 5th place finish.

After the disappointing rainout of the Silver Crown race at DuQuoin, Cole Whitt and crew readied themselves for USAC Sprint car action at the Terre Haute Action Track.   Cole was fast in the 67k sprint car but again had a late pill draw for qualifying.  Whitt qualified 13th of the 32 car field and posted a strong 2nd place finish in the heat race.  Whitt started the main event in 13th and was able to work his way into the top 5 mid way through the race.  While enduring rough track conditions, it was Jon Stanbrough claiming his first USAC win of the season with Cole Whitt finishing a strong 2nd place.   “We had a good car when it came to the main event, I had to be aggressive but smart to finish where we did tonight, the track was rough and 2nd place is a good point night for us,”  stated Cole.

Cole Whitt and team would like to congratulate Team Red Bull and Brian Vickers at making the Chase for the cup in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship.
The team is on a roll and with momentum on their side everyone is hoping for a strong run at the championship!  Go Red Bull!!  Look for Cole Whitt to be back in action this weekend in USAC Midgets at “Jegg’s Crown Midget Nationals” at Columbus Motor Speedway and “4 Crown Championship” at Eldora Speedway, September 26th.
