WHITT CAPTURES FATHER'S DAY VICTORY FOR 2009
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 –After a win on Mother’s Day, Cole Whitt had the pressure of repeating the feat on Father’s Day for his dad Tobin. After making a switch to the Bullet 29w chassis, Cole continued his dominant form at Kokomo on Sunday in capturing his 4th victory at Kokomo this season.

With Cole’s 18th birthday just a few days shy of the event, Cole Whitt started the weekend knowing that he was not allowed to compete at the 2009 USAC National midget event in Newton, IA. The event was scheduled to race in conjunction with the Indy Racing League. Due to league rules, no driver under 18 years of age is permitted to compete in an event that is organized through the IRL. Therefore, Cole and his partner in crime in Indiana Chuck Gurney Jr. packed up the no. 29w and rolled down to Gas City, IN for a Friday night for the “Mid-Season Doubler”. With a field of 28 cars including a number of USAC National drivers, the event turned into a real battle. Cole was able to get the 29w up to speed quickly and the C-Squared Motorsports Red Bull Bullet was one of the few cars that could race high and low. After starting the heat race in seventh, Cole used the high line and rode the cushion to win the heat race. Again for the feature event, Cole started seventh after a pre-event draw for position for the top eight cars in the feature. Cole once again was able to use the cushion to move toward the lead of the feature. Once in second, Cole kept working the high line, with very little track to hold on to, Cole got a little to high on the race track, spun and recovered to post an eighth place finish.

For Saturday night, the USAC National sprint cars moved to Kalamazoo, MI. The USAC National event meant a large field of nearly 40 cars. The pavement track in Kalamazoo was new to Cole, however, he was able to get up to speed quickly and post a sixth fast time. In the main event, Cole dealt with changing conditions of the car and the final result was a reasonable fourth place finish.

Finally, Cole Whitt and the C-Squared Motorsports 29w returned to his favorite race track. The dirt track in Kokomo, IN has been home for many drivers as they grow up from young upstart drivers into NASCAR and Indy Car superstars. Cole Whitt has become a fan favorite for many of the regular Sunday night crowd. With the record of wins that Cole and the 29w is posting, it is easy to understand why this is so. The night started with Cole coming out in the Bullet chassis and posting quick time. After a third place finish in the heat race, Cole moved straight to the feature, and started in sixth due to the inversion based on qualifying time. The feature found Cole battling a number of his USAC foes as well as many of the regulars at Kokomo. His car was hooked up high and low on the race track. Cole easily moved from sixth to the lead early in the event. He was able to pull away and post a dominating victory in the 25 lap feature.

Cole was happy to give his dad Tobin a Father’s Day victory and said, “It was a fun weekend for me. Chuck and I have a great local car package and the hard work we put into preparing this car is shown in the results. We have posted several wins in the Twister Chassis and now to get another one in the Bullet is great. I was really happy to win on Sunday because since I won on Mother’s Day, I pretty much needed to win one for Dad too!! Happy Father’s Day to my dad and to all the racing father’s out there.”
