Whitt Bats .500 in Two Races from Weekend
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 – After a successful test at Caraway Speedway in North Carolina, it was back to work over the weekend.  The Combine test was conducted with Eddie Sharp Racing and organized by Motorsports Management Incorporated.  The Combine was a great success and it was a great way to display driving abilities and receive valuable seat time in a Camping World East stock car.

Cole flew back from North Carolina and went straight back to work on his no. 29w “house” sprint car with Chuck Gurney Jr.  The racetrack at Gas City, IN was again the site of Cole’s racing.  As with the previous weekend, Cole and Chuck were fast out of the trailer and looked to be among the contenders for victory among the 28 car field.   A high pill draw placed Cole 6th on the grid of the 4th heat with Whitt finishing 2nd.  Whitt and Gurney made some small changes to the car before racing in the feature.  The changes were positive for Whitt and the 29w.  After several restarts, Cole was able run the high line of the race track and race into the lead passing on the outside.  Whitt gained his 5th win of the season at Gas City I-69 Speedway.

After the victory in Gas City, Cole made his way to Keith Kunz Motorsports to prepare for a USAC national sprint car race in Winchester on Sunday.  Winchester is a high speed, high banked track that demands a lot of attention from the crew and driver. The team battled tight race cars from the start and throughout the early practice sessions.  Cole however stepped it up in qualifying and posted a 2nd quick time from the 19 car field.   Qualifying up front is important not only for points towards the championship but to also position you in the 6 car inversion.  This meant Cole would start the main event in the 5th position.   As the main began Cole seemed poised racing in 5th spot right with the leaders, however as the laps unwound, Cole was fighting a progressively tighter and tighter race car.  Cole finished the race with a solid sixth place finish.

The results from the weekend meant that Cole remains 3rd in the tightening point race.  Cole has moved to within 60 points of the top two in the championship.  Look forward to continued updates this weekend from the historic Hut 100 in Terre Haute, IN.
