2008 USAC Champ Whitt Ready to Begin 2009 at Chili Bowl |
Tuesday, January 6, 2009 – It was just six weeks ago that the 2008 USAC National Championship concluded for Cole Whitt at Turkey Night. Now, in one week, the 2009 season will begin for Cole. Cole and more than 280 midget cars owners and drivers will be on hand for the traditional Chili Bowl Nationals held in Tulsa, OK.
The event is hugely attended by both competitors and spectators as it brings together so many of the nations finest dirt oval racers from every discipline of American oval racing. Drivers from NASCAR, World of Outlaws, oval modified, and the large contingent of non winged sprint cars will work over four nights to qualify for the Saturday night 24-car A Main feature race. For Cole, this event is an anniversary for him of his first steps toward the 2008 championship. The results for Cole in last year's Chili Bowl were nearly as dramatic as the final race as Cole was able to pass Tony Stewart around the outside during the Thursday night preliminary event to qualify for Saturday night's A Main feature race without running in the Saturday prelims. For 2009, Cole is looking forward to continuing his relationship with Keith Kunz Motorsports in the number 71 Red Bull / Toyota USAC midget and number 67k Red Bull USAC sprint car. New for 2009 will be the addition of Toyota power to the number 71 midget. Cole and KKM are looking forward to working with Toyota and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) in achieving even more success in 2009. The new engine is exciting for Cole and Keith Kunz as it is an excellent engine that also has tremendous support from TRD at the race track. Therefore, Cole looks forward to his first race in 2009 with Toyota power at the prestigious Chili Bowl event.
