First, the positive: No. 84 driver Cole Whitt got a nice little test session out of Friday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race.
And now, the negative: A pinion problem in the rear gear robbed Whitt of contending in the New England 125 and left him with a 26th-place finish. He’s now eighth in the championship — 151 points behind leader Ryan Truex with five races remaining. |

As the transmission in his No. 84 Red Bull Toyota let go Sunday, Cole Whitt let go of his stranglehold on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East points lead.
Red Bull Racing Team’s development driver seemed destined for another impressive showing in the season’s third race at Iowa Speedway, qualifying second overall earlier in the day and leading 31 laps. That was until, on lap 139, Whitt’s car slowed in turn three to bring out the race’s fifth caution. |
